Nashvillians Earn Most in State

Nashvillians Earn Most Money in State; Federal Agency Says Average per Capita Income Increased 5 Percent in 2006 (Tennessean, 08/08/07)
"Per capita income is a useful measure of a region's financial health, said David Penn, director of the Business and Economic Research Center at Middle Tennessee State University. 'It tells you a lot about the economic mood of a city, the sense of well-being that people have in their homes,' Penn said. 'If income is growing strongly around the state, that collectively gives us less reason to worry about our jobs and more reason to feel comfortable buying that big-ticket item,' such as a car or refrigerator, he said."
