BERC Housing Report: 1st Quarter 2016

For the first time in a few years, Tennessee’s housing price growth (6 percent) surpassed the national rate (5.4 percent). The increase was particularly strong in the Nashville MSA, where housing prices rose nearly 9 percent over the year.

A new study says Tennessee has a severe shortage of workers qualified to fill high-tech jobs, a problem that could cost the state billions of dollars in lost business.

The new issue of Jones College magazine Enterprise MT features Murfreesboro Mayor Shane McFarland and some of our MBA alumni.

MTSU Business Plan Competition 2016

The Wright Travel Chair in Entrepreneurship Business Plan Competition open to all current MTSU students and alumni, is the year's main Entrepreneurship event through Jones College of Business at Middle Tennessee State University. Prominent early-stage company investors, entrepreneurs, and business leaders from the middle Tennessee area will judge the presentations by the final student teams.

It is designed to help students and alumni in launching new business ventures, including for-profit businesses, not-for-profit businesses, corporate entrepreneurship, and social enterprise. Participants enhance their MTSU learning experience, gain feedback on ideas, develop networks, and expose their ideas to potential investors.


  • 1st Place Prize - $7,500

  • 2nd Place Prize - $5,000

The quarterly index is a collaboration between Middle Tennessee State University and the Tennessee Chamber of Commerce & Industry to capture the mood and outlook of business leaders through online surveys.

    Business Competition a Learning Experience

    MTSU’s second Strategic Management Case Competition saw 205 students participating for eight weeks for $1,800 in prize money and an eye-catching entry for their resumes. Only 35 students (nine class-champion teams) made it to the Dec. 5 final round, where Goodwill judged them on the quality of their research, recommendations, and presentations.
